Photosynthetic Antenna Complex and Reaction Center

CPK Color Scheme
C O N P

This tutorial will show you some of the key structures of the antenna complex and its relationship to the photosynthetic reaction center.

Focus on the proteins of the antenna complex (multi-colored) and the reaction center (pink).

When the protein stops moving, look for a missing protein in the outer circle that would have made the ring symmetrical all the way around. Hypothesize the function of this gap.

Focus your attention on the photosynthetic pigments in the antenna complex.

When the last change is made, count how many pigements there are. Is this a multiple of 15 (the number of outer proteins) or a multiple of 16 (the number of inner proteins)?
