Click here to highlight the two proteins that comprise the quaternary structure of MHC I. MHC I is blue and the associated protein beta-microglobulin is colored red. The self peptide is nestled within the larger blue MHCI protein.
Slab into the binding site of the MHC I to view the peptide that came from a protein made by the same cell that is displaying the MHC and its peptide. You can see the individual amino acid side chains extending into the crevices of the MHC I binding groove. Notice how some of the peptide extends beyond MHC I and how parts of MHC I extend above other portions of the peptide.
