The Perl programming language is a standard tool for bioinformatics. It is a standard part of Mac OS X and Unix computer systems, and can also be downloaded for Windows. The following resources are useful in learning and obtaining Perl:

CGI programming is useful for building web sites that allow users to explore and apply computational biology algorithms online. Both projects in this course used cgi programming via Perl. The following resources are useful for learning CGI programming:

The gnuplot program is useful for plotting any scientific data. Both projects in this course used gnuplot. It is available for several different platforms. The starting place for learning and obtaining gnuplot is http://www.gnuplot.info.
