3D Structure of RNase P from
Bacillus subtilis
Look at two
tRNase molecules
from yeast.
This is RNase P from
Bacillus subtilis
. It is made of one subunit and included in this view are a sulphate ion (CPK yellow sulpher and red oxygen) and two zinc ions (orange).

of RNase P.
What amnio acids are attached to the ions? If the charge on sulfate is -4, how many amino acids and of what charge do you think need to hold on to it?
Histidine
(pink) has a charge of +1 and
arginine
(red) also has a charge of +1.
Zinc has a charge of +2. What do you expect to see?
One Zn ion is nearest two positively charged amino acids:
histidine
(pink) and
lysine
(green). The other Zn is near negatively charged glutamate (blue) and neutral glutamine (yellow).
